LANSING – State Representatives Tom Cochran (D-Mason), Theresa Abed (D-Grand Ledge) and Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) announced today that they have received their committee assignments. Rep. Cochran will be serving on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Insurance Committee. Rep. Abed will be serving on the House Committees on Education, Insurance and Regulatory Reform. Rep Singh with serve on the House Appropriations Committee, as the Minority Vice Chair on the Appropriation Subcommittees on Education and Higher Education, and on the Subcommittee on General Government.

“If we want to grow our local and state economies, we have to offer our existing and new businesses and industry good roads and infrastructure, so I am ready to get to work on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to help craft a good plan to maintain and improve our roads,” said Rep. Cochran. “I am also pleased to serve on the Insurance Committee and look forward to listening to what Michigan residents have to say about what we need to do to make insurance more affordable and better for their families.”

Rep. Cochran is the former fire chief of the Lansing Fire Department. He is serving his first term representing state House District 67.

Rep. Abed said that her years of service to Eaton County as a school social worker, including 16 years in the Grand Ledge Public Schools, will inform her work on the Education Committee. Rep. Abed is serving her first term representing the 71st District in the Michigan House of Representatives.

“I am very pleased that I have been named to these committees, and I look forward to putting my more than 30 years of experience in our schools to work for my constituents as a member of the Education Committee,” said Rep. Abed. “I also look forward to working with my colleagues, and the citizens of Michigan, on insurance and regulatory reform issues.”

Rep. Singh is a former member of the East Lansing City Council and also served as Mayor of East Lansing.

“As a former local government official, I look forward to serving on the Appropriations Committee and ensuring that we invest taxpayer dollars wisely on the programs and services that our residents need,” said Rep. Singh. “I am also glad to serve on education-related subcommittees to work with my colleagues on ensuring that our students have the resources they need and that higher education is affordable.”
