LANSING — Today, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the 3 percent of teacher pay illegally held back by the state must be refunded. The ruling follows an earlier decision declaring the law that allowed the hold to be unconstitutional. In response, state Rep. Sara Cambensy (D-Marquette) issued the following statement:

"Today the Michigan Supreme Court ordered that $550 million be returned to our public school employees. This is a huge victory, 7 years in the making. Congratulations to all school employees who work tirelessly for their teachers and students every day.

“We must continue the conversation in Lansing this year to fully fund our schools and ensure that our teachers, administrators and school board members have the resources they need to make Michigan one of the leaders in public education in our country once again. Our children are our future.”
