LANSING — State Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Huntington Woods) introduced a resolution today to recognize the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 3 as Curling Week in the state of Michigan. Curling has a long history in the state of Michigan, as Michigan was home to the nation’s first curling club.

To continue the tradition of curling in our state, the Detroit Curling Club, along with the United States Curling Association, will be hosting the Junior National Curling Championships in Ferndale that week.

“I am honored that these young athletes from across the country will be coming to the 27th District to compete in such a great event,” Rep. Wittenberg said. “I look forward to hosting them in our community and encourage my neighbors to get out and learn more about this sport.”

The Junior Curling National Championships test the athleticism, skill and perseverance of the best curlers in the country, to determine whom the honor will be bestowed upon to represent the United States at the World Junior Championships.

This resolution affirms the state of Michigan’s commitment to promoting physical health, fitness, tourism and economic growth.
