Since beginning her first term in January, Jennifer Haase
(Richmond) has hit the ground running, fighting for Michigan's hard-working residents.
In February, Haase introduced her first bill –legislation to aid firefighters suffering from work-related cancer by expanding coverage under the Worker's Compensation Act. The plan passed the House in April with strong bipartisan support.
"After they have given their all for us, I believe the least we can do is to make sure that firefighters and their families are taken care of," said Haase, whose husband, Robert, is a Sterling Heights firefighter/paramedic.
Haase was in her 11th year of teaching at Warren Woods Public Schools when she was elected to represent the 32nd House District, consisting of northern Macomb County and southern St. Clair County.
As a member of the House Education Committee, she is working to ensure that our schools prepare every child to compete for good-paying jobs in the 21st century global economy.
As part of her commitment to cut state spending and reform Michigan's government, Haase proposed slashing the salaries of lawmakers and other top elected officials by 10 percent. Both the House and Senate approved her proposal.
When she's not in Lansing, Haase is dedicated to meeting as many constituents as possible.
"There are many challenges facing our residents and right now, a lot of people feel powerless," Haase said. "That's why I'm committed to engaging folks in the process by holding coffee hours, town hall meetings and other events. I want residents to know they have a voice."
