Autism is a serious disorder that affects one in 150 children, but health care companies continue to refuse to cover treatments for autism. Children are either going without care or families are being forced to bear a high financial and emotional burden. Treating autism can cost a single family $50,000 or more each year.
This is a problem that is affecting countless families across Michigan, but there are ways we can help them. House Democrats have introduced a plan that will require health insurance companies to provide treatment for the disorder and increase research of the causes and treatments of autism.
